Recap of Georgia

Hey folks!

Well be finishing up our time in Georgia pretty soon, so we wanted to give you all an update of our first week on trail.

This is the top of Springer Mountain, the official start of the AT.

Other than that...

We've had a few rainy days, which has meant a lot of time inside the tiny tent. The tent has kept us dry and warm and we're super happy about it.

So far we've made a lot of friends. Everyone out here goes by trail names. Emily has been named Giggles, and Margaux's working name is Chuckles.

The biggest frustration that we've met so far has not been the rain... We've been feeling like we have something to prove, being women out here. A lot of folks in camp haven't been taking us too seriously, but as soon as they learn that we're some of the most experienced folks out here, that changes a bit.

All in all- we're happy! We're a little but sore from the recent increase in mileage, but we're having a lot of fun, making a lot of friends, staying dry (for the most part), and laughing frequently.

Tomorrow!

Margaux and I are currently in Amicalola Falls State Park which is BEAUTIFUL. Here we are enjoying our final showers and comfy beds, while my mom is asking the concierge endless questions about thru hikers. Were both super excited to start our hike tomorrow! We'll be starting at the Amicalola Falls visitor center around 8:00am. Then we'll most likely be off the grid until our first resupply in Hiawasee. Hopefully by then we'll have some good photos. Thanks to everyone for their support! It's great to know there are people thinking of us.

Also quick shout out to Babram for providing some tunes for today's drive. You included the one and only song the Sklar family enjoys singing along to on road trips: Country Roads

Tiny Package!

With one day until we drive down to Georgia we received a package from some friends! Thanks Xtine and Quinn! We are super excited about the pickle duct tape and Margaux is already working on her harmonica skills.

We have all of our food planned until May! We're almost ready but have a lot of little details to take care of before we drive down tomorrow.

T-minus 4 days: Northville, Michigan

In the middle of a whirlwind of preparations, piles of gear, and laborious food shopping....we decided to instead just camp in Emily's parents' living room. Love from EmSklar n Marge

We're together! Tomorrow we're going to work on getting all of our gear together and buying food and things. Sunday we will be headed down to Georgia to start hiking Monday morning. Just a few more days until we're hiking.

Our tinytent!!

22 days til trail

We're so excited!

Welcome to our adventure!

This blog is meant to (roughly) document the (potentially rough) adventures of EmSklar and Marge as they attempt to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail for Emily's Senior Individualized Project. Follow our tiny feet and our tiny tent as we trek toward Katahdin!
